Life’s a garden, Dig it.

By – Nina Carlson,

Did you know? One of the unique features of the Carrington community is our Community Garden!

The garden was founded two years ago by a group of homeowners that wanted to add amenities and value to an unused space in the neighborhood (the old bocce ball court) while also providing any Carrington resident the opportunity to grow, harvest and use hyper-local herbs and veggies!

Today, the garden is located in six raised beds adjacent to the large pool and clubhouse.  All Carrington residents are invited to join the Garden as volunteers!  Our motto is “If You Grow ‘Em, You Can Pick ‘Em!”

Each season, we change up what is grown in the Garden, but favorites have been potatoes, basil, tomatoes, snap peas and lettuce.  New in the 2023 growing season, we are trying strawberries!

Volunteering with the garden means that you sign up for one (or more!) weeks to tend the Garden. Tending the Carrington Garden is easy! Thanks to the HOA, we have a drip irrigation system installed that keeps the beds watered. As a volunteer, you are responsible for visiting the garden at least three times during your volunteer week to check on and address any problems with weeds and pests, and ensure the irrigation is working and sufficient. At the end of the week, we ask you to send one email to the Garden Coordinator with a quick Garden update! In particularly hot times, supplemental watering with the hose on the front of the Clubhouse could be needed, but overall, tending the Garden is easy and fun to do, and is a great activity to include kids.

If you volunteer for at least one week with the Garden, you are eligible to pick as much as you like during any week during the growing season!

There are also planting and harvest days (announced via Instagram) that give all residents a voice in what they would like to see planted and to get your hands dirty!

To volunteer, send an email to carringtoncommunitygarden@gmail.com.

To receive Garden updates, including announcements about workdays and produce available for harvest, follow us on Instagram @thecarringtongarden.

We hope you join us in the Garden!
